Of my two sons my 9 year old would play the Wii games all day if he could. my 6 year old is less obsessed, but the problem tends to be the older brother hogs the games and the youngest just ends up watching. Without a doubt their behaviour towards me, and each other, changes significantly when they've been playing the games. I approached the situation by saying to them that they can play the Wii for half an hour every day, and Sunday is a Wii free day. I then asked them to draw up the rota of when they're going to play it ie. morning or afternoon. It was great to see them negotiate with each other to set the rota. Since this has been put in place I've noticed that they interact and communicate with each other more and play with actual lego, rather than the Lego video games.
i'm in no way against them playing the Wii but definately restricting their time playing them has resulted in benefits. The problem of the games my eldest son plays at friends homes is another thorny issue!
Thanks Michael, the issue of how to deal with them playing at other kids homes is one of my biggest dilemmas too!
